A 35-year-old suspect has been arrested by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in connection with the murder of EFF Tshwane Region 2 secretary and election coordinator Monicca Dube.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning.
Police announced the arrest on Wednesday night.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Dube, 44, was shot multiple times by armed men at her home in Wallmannsthal, Tshwane, on June 13, 2026.
According to reports, Dube had previously survived an attempt on her life in March 2026, when she was allegedly shot 11 times.
She spent several weeks in intensive care before recovering.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Gauteng welcomed the arrest of the suspect.
The party said its provincial leadership and members would attend the suspect’s court appearance and bail proceedings.
The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team was established in March 2026 to investigate political assassinations and high-level organised crime in the province.
The unit followed an announcement by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi in September 2025 that the province would establish its first political killings task team.
At the time, Lesufi said the unit would begin investigating politically motivated murders dating back to 2010 within four weeks.
South Africa’s first Political Killings Task Team was established in KwaZulu-Natal in 2018 to investigate politically motivated murders before its mandate was later expanded to cover cases nationwide.
