A Cape Town man has been sentenced to two life terms in the Western Cape High Court for the rape and murder of eight-year-old Daniel Jamneck.
Daniel was raped and strangled to death on June 15, 2023, while attending a sleepover at a friend’s flat in Peerless Park North in Kraaifontein.
The friend, who was sleeping in the same room on a bunk bed, slept soundly as his father entered the room and rape, bit, and strangled Daniel to death.
The 49-year-old man cannot be identified to protect the identity of his son, who was a crucial witness during proceedings.
A repeat offender
The court previously heard that the man had been out on parole at the time of the murder. He was convicted of the rape of a woman in 2005 and was serving a three-year correctional services supervision sentence after entering into a plea agreement with the State.
The State previously revealed that the man had left bite marks and abrasions on Daniel’s body, and adult pubic hair was found during the investigation. They explained that nail marks had been found in Daniel’s neck after a post-mortem had been conducted.
Despite maintaining his innocence, the court convicted the father.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for the 2005 rape, life imprisonment for the murder, eight years’ imprisonment for the sexual assault, and life imprisonment for the rape of Daniel.
The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
The court further ordered his details be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders, prohibited him from possessing a firearm and barred him from working with children.
