South Africa can expect a largely fine and settled day on Tuesday, with warm to hot conditions in several areas, while morning fog, coastal cloud and cooler temperatures feature along parts of the coastline and higher-lying regions.
Gauteng will enjoy fine and warm weather, although residents are urged to take care in the strong sunshine as the UVB sunburn index reaches the very high category.
In Mpumalanga and Limpopo, morning fog patches are expected over the eastern Highveld, escarpment and parts of the north-west and central Limpopo.
Otherwise, conditions will be fine and cool to warm, becoming hot in places over the Lowveld. North-West will remain fine and warm, while the Free State can expect fine and cool to warm conditions.
The Northern Cape will see morning fog patches, followed by fine and warm to hot weather, although it will remain cool along the coast. Coastal areas will experience fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly winds.
The Western Cape will start with morning fog patches in the north-west and southern parts, before becoming fine to partly cloudy and warm to hot. It will be cold in places along the south and south-west coasts.
Coastal winds will range from light and variable along the south coast early in the day to moderate to fresh south-easterly and easterly winds, reaching strong at times elsewhere. The UVB sunburn index will be very high.
The Eastern Cape will be cooler, with fine conditions expected over much of the province. The western half will be cloudy in the south during the morning and evening, with mist in places, before becoming partly cloudy.
The eastern half will also become cloudy along the coast and adjacent interior during the evening, with fog possible in places. Coastal winds will be light to moderate south-westerly.
KwaZulu-Natal will see partly cloudy skies and morning fog over the interior, followed by fine and cool to warm conditions. Moderate north-easterly winds will blow along the coast, becoming fresh in the north at times.
South of Durban, winds will turn south-westerly from the morning and spread northwards, reaching Kosi Bay by the evening. The UVB sunburn index will be extreme, making sun protection especially important.
