KZN officers find sleeping woman mistaken for dumped body

A 26-year-old woman believed to be a dumped corpse stunned emergency responders after waking up and informing them that she had been sleeping on an embankment alongside an unpaved road in Mount Vernon on Monday.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said two separate callers contacted the organisation requesting assistance after they believed a human body had been dumped in the area.

Body wrapped in white cloth

Reaction Officers and RUSA paramedics were dispatched to investigate the reports.

On arrival, responders located an individual “tightly wrapped in a white cloth” on an embankment next to the road, prompting fears that a body had been abandoned at the scene.

The situation took an unexpected turn when first responders began examining the individual.

“The 26-year-old female became responsive and explained that she had been sleeping,” RUSA said.

The discovery immediately dispelled concerns that the woman had died or been the victim of a crime.

Woman refuses to provide details and returns to sleep

According to RUSA, the woman declined to explain why she was sleeping at the location.

“She declined to provide further information, covered herself with the cloth and went back to sleep,” the organisation said.

The incident had sparked alarm among members of the public, who believed they had discovered a dumped body on the roadside.
