The Thomas More College community still mourning the loss of beloved Grade 8 pupil Awandiswe Zulu, 13, will come together on Tuesday to remember the young boy whose life touched so many.
A memorial service will be held at the school, giving pupils, teachers and the wider school community an opportunity to honour Awandiswe and come together to honour his life and mourn his loss.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not been disclosed.
Claire Stanyer, who knew Awandiswe since his early school days, described him as a special and deeply loved part of their lives.
“A part of our lives since Grade R. We are heartbroken. You were one of the best, and we will miss you dearly. Our hearts and prayers are with you and the family. The kindest boy. We will miss our rugby outings and you being a daily part of our lives. Rest easy, Diswe. You are so, so loved, special boy,” she said.
‘The most beautiful child’
Jacqui Lochner described Awandiswe as “the most beautiful child” and remembered the happiness he brought to those around him.
“The most beautiful child, our hearts are broken. Your happy smile will be missed. My love and prayers are with you. To Gogo, Cynthia, we have spent time together praying.
“My heart is so sad for you and Grandpa. Your love for Awandiswe was so real and so strong. May God give you all comfort and peace,” said Lochner.
Liezl Koekemoer remembered Awandiswe by the nickname “Diswe”, which she said he was fondly known by his friends around campus.
‘Overall amazing student’
“Since hearing of this tragic news, the words that have come up to describe you around campus have been ‘incredible, brilliant, fun, encourager, excellent sportsman, overall amazing student, special, a student of immense inspiration to younger pupils and a pillar in your grade’.”
She said the outpouring of praise was a testament to the impact Awandiswe had on those around him.
“It is the testament of a truly special student who is going to be terribly missed! Our absolute condolences to your family at this very sad time,” Koekemoer said.
Kiley Scully paid tribute to Awandiswe as a much-loved young man whose kindness and gentle nature left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
“Heartbroken beyond words for the loss of such an incredible young man. Awandiswe was truly a beautiful soul, kind, gentle, full of life and so deeply loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” said Scully.
