A newborn baby who was dumped and left for dead has been rescued by private security company Reaction Unit South Africa.
According to RUSA boss Prem Balram, the baby girl was found left for dead in a Woolworths shopping bag in a bush in Oakford, Verulam on Tuesday morning.
He said a man and woman had been en route to a local tuckshop when they heard cries from a baby.
“They entered the bush and discovered the bag. The pair used scissors to cut it open and found the newborn wrapped in a black T-shirt.
“Her umbilical cord had been cut but was left untied. The placenta was also inside the bag.”
He said members of RUSA attended the scene and found the baby to be in good health.
“Reaction Officers interviewed residents in an effort to identify the mother.”
Balram urged anyone with information to contact the RUSA contact centre on 086 123 4333.
