National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams is expected to face intense questioning before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday over allegations involving leaked intelligence documents, state secrets and corruption within the police’s Crime Intelligence Unit.
The appearance comes as Adams serves a 20-day suspension from Parliament after a complaint by DA Chief Whip George Michalakis to Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests.
The suspension followed Adams’ posting of a screenshot of a DA staff member’s email containing contact details on social media.
At the commission, Adams is expected to explain the purpose and contents of a Section 27 affidavit he submitted to the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) in terms of the NPA Act.
The affidavit formed the basis of investigations into senior Crime Intelligence officers and allegations surrounding the appointment of civilian Dineo Mokwele as a brigadier in the unit.
The investigation led to the arrest of Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and other senior officers at OR Tambo International Airport in June 2025.
The National Prosecuting Authority has since withdrawn charges against Khumalo, Mokwele and their co-accused.
IDAC State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy previously testified that the affidavit version presented to the commission differed from a document provided by witness Johnson in December 2024.
Ramsamy said the earlier version contained 12 names of people allegedly implicated in wrongdoing.
She told the commission that allegations relating to a failed polygraph test involving Major-General Madondo and procurement irregularities linked to the purchase of a forklift were omitted from the version later presented.
