Wentworth police are investigating a murder after the body of a 25-year-old woman with gunshot wounds was found lying on the road on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Captain Ntathu Ndlovu said the woman was found on Wiest Road with gunshot wounds.
“Reports indicate the victim was walking on the road alone when she was gunned down. The motive for the killing is unknown. Investigations into this matter continue,” Ndlovu said.
Aubrey Snyman, eThekwini ward 68 councillor, called for an increase in policing to prevent further shooting incidents in the area. He said details about the shooting were scant.
“There are frequent shooting incidents in the area that we need to stop. Law enforcement needs to be beefed up. It appears that law enforcement is overlooking crime in this area. The perpetrators do not value life. We do have hope in God that the crime rate will go down and the area will be at peace,” he said.
