An alleged drug trafficker, 45, was intercepted and arrested at OR Tambo International Airport, where police seized approximately 2kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than R800,000.
The man was arrested by police on Monday, following intelligence-led information.
SAPS national spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda van Wyk said the man was allegedly en route to Hong Kong, China, when police arrested him at the airport.
“A subsequent search of his luggage resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be cocaine.”
The man is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court this week on drug-related charges, police said.

Second drug mule arrested
Van Wyk said this was the second drug mule arrested in four days following the arrest of a 54-year-old South African drug mule on Thursday at the same airport.
At the time, police also seized drugs suspected to be cocaine.
The man was arrested after police received information. He too was reportedly en route to Hong Kong, China, when he was intercepted at the airport.
“A search of the suspect and his luggage led to the discovery of the suspected cocaine concealed inside the luggage.”
Van Wyk said at the time that the exact value and weight of the drugs was yet to be determined and would be confirmed in due course.
“These successive successes at South Africa’s busiest airport demonstrate the SAPS’s continued efforts to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks through intelligence-driven operations at the country’s ports of entry,” she said.
