The owners of KwaNdelu Shisanyama in the Western Cape have expressed their condolences to the families of the 10 patrons gunned down in a deadly shooting at the weekend.
IOL reported that 10 people were killed and 11 more wounded in the bloody incident.
The food establishment said it was devastated by the tragedy and extended its condolences to the families who lost loved ones.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the KwaNdelu Shisanyama family extends our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of everyone who lost their lives in this tragic incident.”
The organisation also asked the affected families and community for forgiveness.
“We humbly ask for forgiveness and sincerely apologise for the pain, grief and suffering experienced by the families, those who were injured, our employees and the wider community,” it said.
KwaNdelu Shisanyama said it normally trades until 10pm and does not sell alcohol.
“KwaNdelu Shisanyama is a food establishment whose business is centred around braai meat and food,” it said.
“We do not sell alcohol. Our normal trading and operating hours are strictly until 10pm.”
However, the establishment said the premises remained active beyond its usual closing time on the night of the shooting because of a Heritage Day celebration.
“On this particular occasion, the premises remained active beyond our normal trading hours as part of a Heritage Day celebration, during which members of the community had gathered to commemorate and celebrate the day together,” it said.
KwaNdelu Shisanyama said it would not speculate while the investigation was under way.
“We recognise that there are many questions surrounding the circumstances of this tragic incident,” the establishment said.
“We do not wish to speculate on matters that are still under investigation and believe that the relevant authorities should be allowed to establish the facts.”
KwaNdelu Shisanyama said it would co-operate with the police and other authorities investigating the shooting.
It said its immediate concern was the families who had lost loved ones, those injured, its employees and others affected by the tragedy.
The establishment ended its statement with another heartfelt message to the bereaved families.
“To the families who have lost their loved ones, we are deeply sorry for your loss and humbly ask for your forgiveness,” it said.
“No words can adequately express the pain of losing someone in such circumstances. May those who lost their lives rest in peace, and may those who were injured receive strength and a full recovery.”
