A home invasion at the residence of a prominent business family in Crawford, Lansdowne ended in gunfire, leaving one suspect dead and another under police guard in hospital.
Armed suspects stormed the family home in Rokeby Road at about 9.15pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2026, tied up the family and demanded cash.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed Lansdowne police registered a house robbery case for investigation following the incident.
“According to reports, the victims were at home when unknown suspects entered the house armed with firearms and demanded cash.”
“The victims were tied up. We can confirm that shots were fired and one suspect was fatally wounded.
“A second suspect who was also wounded was later arrested and is in hospital under police guard.”
Twigg added that “The circumstances surrounding the incident is subject to an investigation by the South African Police Service.”
Rashard Davids, Chairperson of the Civic Association of Rondebosch East (CARE) and Vice Chair of the Neighbourhood Watch, said the victims are a business family, and the robbery is believed to be a targeted attack.
“I can confirm that it is a business family. It was a targeted robbery by the suspects.”
Davids described how the father responded as the robbery unfolded.
“The family was tied up and the perpetrators demanded some money. That’s when the father noticed what was going on and reached for his gun.”
According to Davids, the father was in the shower when the robbers struck.
“The husband or the father was in the shower when he heard this commotion.
“He then reached for his gun, shot one who died in the house and another one that ran away and collapsed at the Astron garage.”

Davids said investigators are likely to have a lead on the suspects’ getaway vehicle.
He said: “As a Civic Association, we condemn this in the strongest possible terms, and we sympathise with the family.”
“We are just grateful none of them were hurt.”
