Davido teams up with SA producers for high-energy new track ‘I Know Who I Be’

Fresh off his historic performance at the 2026 Fifa World Cup Countdown Concert at the Crypto.com Arena, superstar Davido has officially ushered in a new creative era with the release of his latest single “I Know Who I Be”.

The track serves as both a triumphant victory lap and a fierce declaration of identity.

“I Know Who I Be” arrives at a moment of peak cultural influence for the artist.

Having recently wrapped up his massive “5IVE ALIVE TOUR”, the largest African concert tour of 2025, which spanned 12 countries and four continents, and making a historic debut at Coachella, Davido’s footprint has never been larger.

Yet, his gaze remains firmly fixed on where he came from.

Davido collaborated with acclaimed South African hitmakers and leading 3-step producers JAZZWRLD and GL_CeeJay. The resulting production pairs anthemic lyricism with a high-energy bassline that permeates throughout.

It is a bold anthem about identity and roots, serving as a celebration of how far Davido has come and a reminder of exactly who he is.

He wrote on Instagram: “The journey to the throne begins.”

“‘I Know Who I Be’ is more than a song, it’s a reminder that no matter where life takes you, your roots will always be your greatest strength,” says Davido.

“I know who I be, and after more than 15 years of creating music, the world knows who I am, too.”

As the most followed Afrobeats artist on social media with more than 30 million followers, Davido routinely leverages his massive platform for global advocacy.

More recently, he was featured on the official 2026 Fifa World Cup album with the single “No Place Like Home” alongside Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado.

However, it was his bold statement during his World Cup opening-night performance that truly captured the world’s attention, where he used the global stage to draw attention to the kidnapping crisis in his home country, Nigeria.

The backdrop to Davido’s protest was a tragic event that unfolded in Nigeria on May 15. Coordinated armed attacks targeted three schools (a secondary school and two primary schools) in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Dozens of students, some as young as 2 years old, and their teachers were abducted, resulting in nationwide outrage and desperate calls for security intervention.

When Davido stepped onto the Countdown Concert stage, he wore a custom black leather look heavily laden with deliberate symbolism.

The front of his jacket was pinned with dozens of green badges. Each badge was individually printed with the name of an abducted student or teacher.

Across the back of the jacket were the words “Bring Them Home” in bold white graffiti-style writing.

Underneath, he wore a shirt featuring a peace sign rendered in the green-and-white colours of the Nigerian flag.

By choosing a sports platform that reached billions of people across over 150 countries, Davido effectively ensured that a local humanitarian crisis became an international conversation.
