The Department of Home Affairs has moved to relocate refugees living on the streets outside its Che Guevara Road offices in Durban to the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Gauteng.
However, the refugees claim they are not being taken to Lindela for repatriation, saying the facility is being used as temporary shelter while their situation is resolved.
Tensions remained high on Thursday as dozens of members of March and March trickled into King DinuZulu Park ahead of a planned march to the makeshift refugee camp.
Hundreds of refugees have been living on the pavement outside the Home Affairs offices for about four months.
