Trending: Social media erupts over IDAC’s future as calls grow for sweeping reform and new leadership

What’s trending on X

The announcement of Nicolette Bell as a frontrunner to replace Andrea Johnson as the head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) has left many X users cold:

@KgobeMaripa: Noooo, she is a deadly weapon. I will make sure all her dirty linen is exposed.

@lepitori012: This department (IDAC) should be disbanded. We already have a useless NPA. Ordinary people will never recover in this country because of so many useless departments created by the government. We are already frustrated by the ever-rising cost of living while taxes continue to skyrocket.

@GrettahS: She’s one of them, by the way. This is not a new broom at all.

@NkwaliNezisa: No, I’m sorry, I’m not being racist here, but we need a pure black or white person in that position this time around, or this institution has to be completely closed as it duplicates IPID, the police, Crime Intelligence and the NPA.

@proudly83: This time they must hold public hearings and conduct proper interviews.

@Iam_apatriot: What about Adv Sello? Or Adv Baloi or Khumalo? We are already satisfied with their capabilities and trust them as the public. Why this one?

@NellyNgobe25376: I don’t know this woman, but I certainly don’t trust her. Why can’t IDAC just be shut down once and for all? Replacing one rotten potato doesn’t save the entire rotten bag.

@Aya_Muzi: IDAC needs a total revamp. Everyone there must go, including the spokesperson.

@rsa_havoc: Bell is a no-no. She will be another IDAC. She must first deal with the Western Cape and tell us how far they are with the investigation into the Parliament arson attack.

@Martin_Menyatso: She looks almost the same as “Winnie Johnson” and “Shameless” Batohi. Same pot, different lid!

@amolukwa: This is the same person who dismally failed the Western Cape. This has to be a joke.

@lucky_gwija: You are falling for propaganda. What makes her a leading contender? The Daily News and its funders are lobbying for her by making you think she is the leading contender. They will interview “analysts” who already agree with them.
