In Epping, in Cape Town, hundreds of illegal immigrants are seen braving the cold conditions, queuing for food.
Humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers is on site to assist with feeding and humanitarian aid.
The majority of the people on site are those who were camped outside the Zimbabwean consulate for days trying to get their documents and be repatriated back home.
Gift of the Givers spokesperson, Ali Sablay, told IOL overnight that more illegal immigrants were brought to the site.
Many of those come from areas outside of Cape Town such as Malmesbury and Robertson. According to staff on the scene, Home Affairs has brought in additional staff to assist in documenting all the individuals currently on site.
The majority of people include women and young children. Deputy Director of Home Affairs, Almien van der Berg, said the individuals in Epping are all Zimbabwean; so far, over 2,500 have already been processed over the past two days.
She further confirmed health and mental health services have been made available.
Van der Berg said individuals are currently just awaiting their emergency documentation so they can be loaded onto the two buses.
Irene, a Zimbabwean national, told IOL she has been at the repatriation centre for five days. As she awaits documentation for her and her one-year-old daughter, a tired Irene says: “We just want to go home”.
