Body of missing three-year-old recovered from storm water reservoir in Plettenberg Bay

The body of a three-year-old child has been recovered from a storm water reservoir in New Horizons, Plettenberg Bay.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said first responders and police were called to the area after reports that a toddler had gone missing while playing with friends.

According to the NSRI, children who had been with the toddler told rescuers that the child had fallen into a pond of water at a storm water reservoir before disappearing.

Rescue teams, assisted by municipal officials, deployed water extrication pumps to drain the pond.

The child’s body was later located in the water. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police have opened an inquest into the incident.
