A NINE-year-old boy was left with serious injuries after falling from the second-floor of a flat on Helen Joseph Road in Bulwer, Durban on Tuesday.
Fran Kristopher, the DA ward 33 councillor, said alerts were shared on the emergency groups regarding a child falling from the flat at about 11:30am.
“The ambulance and emergency services were efficient in getting to the scene within minutes from the initial call for assistance.
“While details are still unclear surrounding the events leading up to the incident, my request is to please keep the little boy and family in prayer as he is seeking the necessary medical attention.
“I would also like to thank the first responders, our Community Policing Forum members, local security and ambulance services who attended to the call,” she said.
Colonel Boysie Zungu, a metro police spokesperson, said the Durban Metropolitan Police Service (DMPS) Search and Rescue Unit responded to the incident.
“The child sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene by emergency services. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation by the South African Police Service (SAPS). The DMPS wishes the child a full and speedy recovery.”
Garrith Jamieson, the spokesperson for ALS Paramedics said: “Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos as a young boy had fallen approximately 20 meters. Advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise the child on scene before rushing him through to a nearby specialist hospital for the further care that he required.”
The provincial SAPS did not respond at the time of publishing.
