Actress and businesswoman Connie Ferguson is embroiled in a legal battle to evict a Ruimsig couple from a property amid an alleged R549,302 debt in unpaid occupational rent, municipal utilities and related charges.
The eviction application has been contested after the couple filed a notice to oppose the proceedings in the Johannesburg High Court on October 7, according to reports by the Sunday Times.
The dispute stems from a property sale agreement signed on October 28, 2025. The couple moved into the property on December 1 while awaiting the transfer to be finalised.
Under the agreement, they were required to pay R65,000 a month in occupational rent, excluding additional charges.
However, Ferguson alleges that the payments fell into arrears, leaving a substantial amount outstanding.
According to reports, the couple attributed their financial difficulties to alleged fraud involving their accountant.
They reportedly paid R165,000 in May and June, but the outstanding balance remained unsettled by August.
Ferguson’s company argues that the couple’s continued occupation of the property prevents it from using or selling the home.
In her affidavit, Ferguson maintained that the couple could secure alternative accommodation without being left homeless or dependent on state resources.
The couple has since formally indicated its intention to oppose the eviction application, setting the stage for a contested legal battle.
