Thirty-one-year-old engineer, Suraan Windvogel, has been laid to rest, after DNA results were confirmed.
Winvogel’s family issued a public notice on Friday confirming that DNA testing positively identified her.
Her janaza (funeral) was held on Saturday in Bokmakerie, Athlone, at her home.
According to the Cape Argus sister publication, The Athlone News, more than 100 people, including family members, attended her final send-off.
Winvogel’s decomposing body was found dumped along Cross Boulevard Road in Kewtown on June 22.
Her killer had shoved her body inside two bags, one of which was a black bag.
The family had earlier told the Cape Argus that identification was hard due to the decomposition of the face but that they had recognised her by her bracelets and the clothing she was wearing.
Winvogel was buried in the same grave as her mother at the cemetery in Johnson Road.
The family previously revealed that Winvogel suffered from bipolar disorder and had a breakdown a few years ago.
Her alleged killer, Rashaad “Boontjie” Daniels, 60, made an appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where it was heard that he had been out on parole at the time of the murder.
He had been sentenced for theft of a motor vehicle and has a rap sheet dating back to 1990.
