Judge rules that another of Brad Pitt’s sons, Maddox Jolie Pitt, can drop father’s surname

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son Maddox has joined his other siblings to legally drop Pitt from last name.

A judge in Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled on Monday, Sept. 14, that the 25-year-old’s name would legally be changed from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie, according to public court records.

Maddox first filed to request the legal name change on May 28, 2026.

Maddox is the eldest of Jolie, 51, and Pitt’s six children. The former couple, who split in 2016, also share Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and 18-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

In August 2024, Shiloh, born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie. Shiloh filed to change her surname on May 27, 2024, which was also the then-teen’s 18th birthday.

Several other siblings have distanced themselves from Pitt via their last name.

In the May 2024 Playbill for The Outsiders, the Broadway musical Vivienne helped her mom produce, Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie rather than Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.

Then, in July, Vivienne filed a petition to drop Pitt from her last name, citing “personal” reasons, according to court documents at the time. A hearing on her petition is scheduled for Nov. 2, 2026.

Zahara also dropped her father’s last name when she walked across the stage at her graduation from the college on May 17, 2026. While the new grad, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, was listed as Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt on the commencement program, her name was read as “Zahara Marley Jolie” as she walked across the stage.

Zahara officially filed to drop Pitt from her last name in June, just days after Maddox’s filing. Her hearing is set for Sept. 28, 2026.
