Justice Minister Kubayi launches IDAC Ombud offices to tackle corruption and abuse of power

Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi will on Friday launch the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) Ombud Oversight Offices, taking aim at abuse of power and maladministration within the justice system.

The new office, based at the SALU Building in Pretoria, will be led by retired Judge Takalani Joseph Raulinga.

Its mandate includes investigating allegations of abuse of power, improper conduct, maladministration and other complaints linked to the work of the IDAC.

The launch will bring together Kubayi, Deputy Minister Andries Nel, Judge Raulinga and National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi’s successor, Advocate Mxolisi Mothibi, underscoring the government’s focus on reinforcing institutional integrity and public confidence.

The launch comes as the Madlanga Commission continues hearing evidence into allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption within the justice system.

Proceedings before the commission have heard testimony alleging misconduct, political interference, weak governance and administrative failures across several state institutions, including the SAPS, municipalities and metro police departments.

Those revelations have intensified calls for stronger oversight and decisive action against wrongdoing.

The establishment of the IDAC Ombud is expected to provide an independent channel for investigating complaints while reinforcing transparency, accountability and confidence in anti-corruption institutions.
