Taxi boss Bafana “King of the Sky” Sindane has filed an urgent application in the Pretoria High Court to block WhatsApp messages retrieved from his devices from being admitted as evidence before the Madlanga Commission.
Sindane is challenging the admissibility of the messages, which were retrieved by the Mpumalanga Organised Crime Unit.
The move comes after the Commission ordered him to testify “in whatever format.”
Sindane’s lawyers had sought a postponement until October after producing a medical certificate when he did not appear on Wednesday.
His lawyer, Thabani Masuku, said Sindane was also pursuing a court order to block the testimony and prevent the commission from relying on his cellphone messages.
Masuku argued that proceeding without Sindane could be unfair, citing the taxi boss’s spiritual seclusion as a private and culturally significant process.
Sindane is a close associate of Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni.
Both are co-accused in a criminal case involving allegations of R2 million in extortion and money laundering.
