A man believed to be in his 30s was shot dead in Springfield Park on Friday afternoon, with police launching an investigation into the fatal attack.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, emergency services responded to reports of a shooting at the corner of Ashfield and Willowfield roads shortly after 1.15pm.
“Just after 1.15pm on Friday, ALS Paramedics responded to a shooting incident on the corner of Ashfield and Willowfield in the Springfield Park area of Durban,” Jamieson said.
He said paramedics arrived to find members of the SAPS and several private security companies already on the scene.
“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and unfortunately had passed away before paramedics arrival. He was declared deceased at the scene,” said Jamieson.
The victim was found lying on the roadside.
His identity has not yet been released.
Jamieson added that the area has since been declared an active crime scene.
“The scene was cordoned off by SAPS and is still currently active as it is now an active crime scene. At this stage, the events leading up to the shooting is unknown,” he said.
Police and other relevant authorities remain on the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. No arrests have been reported.
