Nigerian national arrested with R20,000 worth of drugs in Polokwane

A 40-year-old Nigerian national is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after being arrested for allegedly dealing in and possessing drugs.

The suspect was arrested on Monday, August 17, during a disruptive operation conducted by members of the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics, Anti-Gang Unit and Organised Crime Unit in Polokwane.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said they acted on information about a white Kia Picanto allegedly being used to deliver drugs in the city.

“The vehicle was spotted along the R101 and followed. The driver sped off and was pursued until the R37 road, where he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot,” Ledwaba said.

Police said the suspect was apprehended after abandoning the vehicle, with officers subsequently searching the Kia Picanto.

“Police recovered CAT and ROCK drugs, with an estimated street value of R20,000, hidden inside the vehicle,” Ledwaba said.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, welcomed the arrest and recovery.

“Police will continue to disrupt the illicit drug trade and bring those involved before the courts.”

The suspect is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, where he will face charges relating to dealing in and possession of drugs.
