The second suspect arrested in connection with a trafficking case that saw a Durban businessman in the dock made his first appearance in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday.
Rangasamy Naidoo,48, is facing charges of human trafficking, kidnapping, cybercrime, crimen injuria, and procurement for prostitution.
The main suspect is a 65-year-old Durban businessman.
The suspect cannot be named yet in terms of a court order, as he has yet to plead to a sexual assault charge.
The businessman was arrested on August 11 on a J50 warrant of arrest. He faces a total of 20 charges, including trafficking in persons, kidnapping, and sexual assault.
Following a brief first appearance, the matter was adjourned, and the businessman was taken to Westville Prison Hospital.
Both are expected to apply for bail on August 25.
The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation said Naidoo handed himself over to authorities at the Durban North Police Station on Thursday, August 13. The KZN Hawks spokesperson Colonel Philani Nkwalase said the case stemmed from a 2022 rescue of four women from a Durban North property.
“The case stems from a 2022 rescue of four young women from Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, who were lured with a fake SIM card job opportunity and were later forced into sexual exploitation at a Durban North property,” Nkwalase said.
