The trial against murder accused Tiffany Meek is expected to begin in the Johannesburg High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Thursday.
The 32-year-old pleaded not guilty to the murder of her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek
She also pleaded not guilty to child abuse, defeating the ends of justice, and crimen injuria.
As her trial is expected to begin, the State has indicated that it will be calling its first witness today. It remains unclear who the witness might be at this stage.
According to Newzroom Afrika, Meek’s legal representatives stated she was offered a plea deal by the State.
If Meek pleads guilty to culpable homicide, she would face no jail time. However, going against the advice of her legal representatives, Meek denied the deal and stated she wanted her day in court.
Jayden-Lee was reported missing on May 13, 2025, after he failed to return home after school.
His lifeless, half-naked body was found on May 14, 2025, near the staircase in the Swazi Place complex just metres from the front door of his home.
Meek was arrested on July 11, 2025, and has been in custody since following a failed bail application.
