A 53-year-old scholar transport driver was shot and killed in Westbury, Gauteng, just after dropping off schoolchildren. The man was about to park his vehicle at a flat in Westbury when two unknown men approached him and opened fire.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said police received a complaint of a shooting incident at approximately 8:10 am on Monday.
“Upon arrival, police found a 53-year-old scholar transport driver with multiple gunshot wounds.
“It is alleged that the victim had just dropped off schoolchildren and was about to park his vehicle at a flat in Westbury when two unknown men approached him and opened fire.”
Sibeko said the man was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
“The suspects fled the scene in a blue Volkswagen Polo.”
She said the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.
Sophiatown police have opened a case of murder.
“No arrests have been made, and police investigations are continuing.”
Sibeko said police have launched a manhunt for two men following the fatal shooting.
